{"id":153,"date":"2008-07-10T22:27:59","date_gmt":"2008-07-11T03:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dondailey.wordpress.com\/?p=142"},"modified":"2008-07-10T22:27:59","modified_gmt":"2008-07-11T03:27:59","slug":"get-ready-to-jump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dondailey.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/10\/get-ready-to-jump\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Ready To JUMP!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dondailey.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/jump.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[153]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dondailey.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/jump.jpg?w=210\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-143\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re digging this at the Dailey house.<\/p>\n<p>Our cable has a new channel called <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Retro_Television_Network\">Retro Television<\/a> that carries a lot of old TV shows and we discovered a couple of weeks ago that the classic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000136\/\">Johnny Depp<\/a> series comes on at 8 every night. The show began in 1987, the year Gina and I graduated high school and it was pretty cutting edge at the time. It was on the new Fox network, which had a rep of airing gritty or tasteless fare. I didn&#8217;t watch many episodes during the first run, but it made quite a splash among the young and hip.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The show involved a group of young-looking cops who infiltrated local high schools to arrest teen drug dealers, rapists and drag racers. It&#8217;s quite dated now, but that&#8217;s what makes it great: mullets, and stonewashed and pegged jeans, and dudes with big hoop earrings. I&#8217;ve been surprised at how sophisticated the plots are: drug use, teen pregnancy and violence. It pretty much launched Johnny Depp&#8217;s career and also starred a young <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0005372\/\">Holly Robinson<\/a>, who went on to star in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0103435\/\">Hanging With Mr. Cooper<\/a> and married NFL quarterback Rodney Peete. She also sang the rockin&#8217; theme song: &#8220;I said jump! 21 Jump StreeEET!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In my research of links for this post I discovered that a movie version of the TV show is in the works.
