Last month we made a triumphant return to Destin, Fla. This time we went with some friends and Abby had a couple other kids to keep her company. Red-flag waves made for some good boogie boarding.
We did the sand burial thing one afternoon. For this occasion, Gina got her a sweet sorority-girl-on-spring-break cowboy hat.
Abby found one of those trampoline-bungee-jump deals, her favorite carnival ride. She rode it two days in a row.
We made out traditional trip to McGuires, which was a little off its game.
The Redneck Riviera has gotten a lot of rain this year and it rained nearly every day we were there. We caught this rainbow right after a big t-storm blew through. One night the rain reduced us to going to the movies. Incidentally, the movie theater was the worst I can remember being in. And I’ve been in the old theater in Parsons, Kan.
After two rain outs we finally got to set sail on the Buccaneer Pirate Cruise. The ship was built to replicate a pirate ship and pirate-actors put on a two hour show for the kids that involved recovering a pirate treasure from the briny deep. It kept the kids entertained while the adults enjoyed libations and a sunset boat ride.
We left Destin after five days and hit Pensacola. Gina, Abby and I headed out to the National Seashore to beat the crowds and embark on a twilight crab hunt and family beach-portrait session.
Hey! There’s one.
