Getting Into The Swim Of Things

In the past I’ve been labeled a swimming poolophobe based mainly on my yearly pronouncements that swimming pools are really just big tanks of p*ss. I have a whole comedy routine about how everyone pees in the pool and those who say they don’t are liars. When our neighborhood pool closed in Johnson last summer due to high levels of pee byproducts, I was completely vindicated.

Despite all that, I really enjoy swimming. I do prefer to swim in a lake, river or the ocean. I realize natural water bodies are arguably just as contaminated as your average pool. Certainly some bodies of water are clearly unfit to swim in.

On Monday, Abby and I went with our friends Jim and Brayden to Wild River Country, Little Rock’s water park, which I’ve been know to refer to as Wild Urine Country. It was Abby’s first time to be in a real swimming pool and I was interested to see how she handled it. Unfortunately, I didn’t shoot any decent pictures of her. It’s hard to take photos and worry about keeping Abby from drowning at the same time. Plus I was afraid of getting my camera doused so I was careful not to take it places where it could be dropped in water. I ended up getting a lot of photos of her back.

Abby did really well. At one point we got out of the kiddie pool and into a deeper pool where she paddled around in her floaties in water where she couldn’t touch bottom. We floated the Lazy River and spent some time in the wave pool where Abby got tossed around a little in the artificial surf. The best part was when Abby had been in the pool about 5 seconds and started crying because she had to pee. She said “I don’t want to pee in the water.” By this time the pee was running down her legs a little bit, but she stopped the flood. Then she walked out of the water, spread her legs real wide and peed all over the concrete right in front of God and everybody.

I hadn’t been to a water park in at least 20 years. A couple of times I got Jim to keep an eye on Abby while I went wild like Napoleon at Waterloo.

Hahahaha, she peed in front of God and everybody cause her daddy rants about pee filled water. See? You taught her this. 🙂

    Wild Urine Country….

I’ll never see it the same way again. I avoid water for the same reasons actually. However, I usually site a different reason so I get less grief about it. “I have red hair. That is basically a sun disability!” Notice that never stops me from hiking and such for pictures though…

I think our ‘hood is pretty safe. Sorry if I scared you. Buuuut I left my house unalarmed with the garage door standing open during lunch hour 11-2pm. Seriously I more or less put up a welcome flag. I think if you are half way smart (and I’m sure you are) you’ll be fine. The only other break-in I’ve heard about here was NOT a break-in at all. The crazy lady, “desperate housewife,” had her house broken into by a guy that had a key. To me that isn’t a robbery; it’s a domestic dispute.

Anyway, yes, ten years is a long time, but it’s also very realistic. I’m single and depend on one income and need the best safety net I can give myself. I’m going to start right away trying stuff on the side, and if that took off sure ten years would be shortened. However, I don’t plan on doing anything risky yet. Testing the waters first.
